Spring Inspired Silk Ribbon Embroidery

Blues and yellows have always been symbolic Spring colours to myself and my family. The snowdrops and sent away the winter winds and with the warmth of Spring arrive the daffodils, tulips, bluebells and for-get-me-knots. Many of Jacqueline’s designs are inspired by her garden, and walking through the woods at the top of the village where she lives in Yorkshire. In early Spring she’s blessed with thousands of blue bells in the woods and also the odd daffodil.

Silk ribbon embroidery is a highly decorative technique that dates back to the 17th century and was especially popular during the Victorian era. Using fine silk ribbons instead of traditional threads, it allows for the creation of beautifully raised, dimensional designs—most commonly floral motifs like roses, daisies, and leaves. The ribbons naturally twist and curl as they are stitched, giving a soft, lifelike quality to each element. It’s a versatile craft suitable for embellishing clothing, accessories, cushions, and even framed artwork, and is accessible to beginners while offering plenty of creative scope for more experienced stitchers.
