Summer Inspired Silk Ribbon Embroidery
By mid summer Jacqueline’s garden is a mass of pink and purple. This is quite unintentional. Jacqueline does try to include flowers of other colours. It’s just that the pinks and purples seem to flourish best. There are masses of fushia’s, in varying shades of pink and purple. Dahlia’s, peonies, lilies, hostas, roses and more. Jacqueline loves her garden, hence the summer hearts and roses design. She teaches this design using different flower combinations. This gives the learner not only the opportunity to learn a variety of stitches but also how to manipulate them to create different flowers and be rewarded with something totally unique.
Summer Inspired Designs
Summer is a wonderful source of inspiration for silk ribbon embroidery, with its bright colours, blooming gardens, and long, golden days. The soft sheen of silk ribbons perfectly captures the essence of summer flowers like lavender, sweet peas, and climbing roses. You can play with vibrant shades, layer petals for depth, and add little details like bees or buds to bring your embroidery to life.
Silk ribbon embroidery is a unique technique that uses soft, flat silk ribbons to create dimensional designs with a sculptural quality. Unlike traditional thread embroidery, the ribbon’s width and sheen allow for fuller, more lifelike petals, leaves, and textures. Basic stitches such as ribbon stitch, straight stitch, and French knots are adapted to work with the ribbon’s natural twists and folds, giving a lovely, organic look to the finished piece. The technique is surprisingly accessible—even beginners can quickly achieve beautiful results—and it offers endless creative possibilities for adding depth, movement, and a touch of elegance to fabric. Whether you’re creating a decorative hoop, personalising a sun hat, or embellishing a light cotton blouse, silk ribbon embroidery adds a joyful, seasonal charm to every project.
Silk ribbon embroidery is perfect for capturing the lightness and colour of summer, with its soft ribbons lending themselves beautifully to delicate blooms, trailing vines, and vibrant garden scenes. Inspired by summer’s abundance, this technique brings to life roses in full bloom, wildflowers swaying in the breeze, and lush greenery—all in soft, shimmering silk. The gentle texture and natural flow of the ribbon mimic the organic beauty of petals and leaves, making it ideal for summery designs on clothing, accessories, or home décor. Whether stitching a posy on a linen cushion or embellishing a summer dress, silk ribbon embroidery adds a fresh, romantic touch that celebrates the season.
